The Unspoken Secrets of True Web Traffic Success
By Dearl Miller from Nitro Marketing

PART II: A Dozen Fun and Free Ways To Get More Traffic Now!

Some traffic tactics are better than others; you already know that.

But do you know which ones are the best for you and your website?

Conventional web marketing wisdom says the best traffic tactics are the ones with
the highest ROI – the ones driving the most buyers to your site for the least cost.

But I disagree.

We’ve spent the last 10 years researching and developing hundreds of ways to drive more traffic to your website. So I could easily sit here and list off 250 highly-profitable, free or low-cost traffic tactics…but I won’t! The “best” traffic tactic cannot be defined by cost, hits or ROI – at least not in the way business normally defines the terms.

(NOTE: Next month I’ll share the Top 10 Totally Free Traffic Tactics of All-Time!
Get a sneak preview now at: http://xfactortraffic.com - X Factor Gets Traffic Faster)

ROI – Return on Investment – is a great traffic tool. It gets you thinking about your advertising expenses in terms of “earnings” instead of “cost”…which is a step forward.
But ROI is just dollars and cents, a truly successful traffic tactic is so much more than that.

Your Passion, your time and your quality of life must be included when deciding “best”.

Because it’s a fact, there are fun ways to build a web business and then there’s work. If you chose marketing tactics you don’t enjoy, you will not be doing them for very long. And there are too many fun, exciting, rewarding opportunities online to waste your time toiling away doing something you hate. So this month I’m going to share with you a dozen fun and free ways to get more traffic…simple, enjoyable tactics that will tap into your own passions in order to super-size your 1&1 affiliate commissions!

8 Fun and Free Traffic Tactics for Beginners

Hard-core web marketing is about Search Engine Optimization, Pay-Per-Click Advertising and Affiliate Program Building. Yes, those are all essential pieces of every professional web marketer's repertoire, but not every traffic method is that difficult or expensive. In fact, sometimes traffic can be downright FUN!

Here are my 8 favorite innovative and unique, free or low-cost ways to drive a flood of highly targeted traffic to your website very, very quickly. These are the tactics you can use to create a massive amount of traffic, even if you’re starting from scratch, have absolutely no budget...and hate marketing.

1. Blogging – Hardcore marketers strip all the fun out of blogging by auto-building all their massive “blog farms”. For the rest of us, we can generate just as much traffic while doing something we love by becoming a legitimate member of the Blogosphere.

Getting started with blogging is extremely easy. Simply use the free blog that comes with your 1&1 web hosting account or try WordPress.com

All it takes to get traffic immediately is to start writing your own blog posts and interacting with other bloggers in your niche.

When I say “interacting” I mean: reading and commenting on other blogs; making posts on your blog that link to other posts you found funny, useful or just interesting (that’s called using trackbacks); and participating in blogger group discussions and other Blogosphere group events such as Blog-a-Thons and “Blog Carnivals”.

The truth is, the Blogosphere is a whole new world, full of fun and exciting new ways to create traffic and market your products or services. I could easily write a hundred pages or more on how to create traffic by blogging. But the bottom line is, just jump in and get start doing it today…I’ll give you a full lesson on blog traffic in an upcoming issue.

When it comes to driving highly targeted people to your website, nothing compares to posting, commenting, and trackbacks; all simple, fun, and extremely powerful web marketing tactics.

2. Social Networking – Another area that pure profiteers suck all the life out of is MySpace, Facebook, YouTube and the other social networking sites.

The purpose of these sites is to connect with other people, from all across the globe, who are interested in the exact same things you are. Each site has its own unique features, but they’re all about sharing, communicating, and interacting with like-minded people…no matter where they are.

To create free traffic it’s important to seize any and every opportunity to communicate with a group of people who are already interested in your niche. They are the perfect prospects for what you sell, and your mission is to find as many creative and innovative ways to communicate the value of your product or service to them as possible.

Social Networking sites make this extremely easy. All of the Networking sites contain numerous built-in tools designed to help members find, communicate and interact with fellow members. By definition, these sites want you to find each other. They need you to go out and build online groups and web based communities around common interests, dedicated to solving shared problems. And these are the exact same things you need to do in order to get Social Networking users to visit your site and buy the products and services you’re recommending (like 1&1 web hosting).

By following this strategy you’ll have a great time building a large and responsive network, which will generate a serious amount of traffic to your site very, very quickly.

3. Social Bookmarking – In almost every case, the key to creating free or low-cost traffic is creating articles, audio and video files, or other content that people interested in your product or service would find exceptionally valuable. But if content is the foundation of good web marketing, then distribution is what gets people’s attention.

For sites on a tight budget, social bookmarking is one of the absolute best ways to reach-out and draw high-quality visitors to your site. Just create something truly great to share, then bookmark it using popular social bookmaking sites like digg.com or del.icio.us.

If fellow members of community like it, they’ll bookmark it too. Content with a lot of bookmarks will quickly gain a huge amount of in-bound links, generate a lot of click through traffic, and rank at the top of the search results on these very popular sites.

4. Bonuses and Integration Marketing Tactics - If another site already has the traffic you want, then find creative ways to get access to it through them. Provide the site with a free bonus to give customers after making a purchase. Write up an extra tip or lesson to include in their auto-responder series. Or, do a special free teleseminar for their list.

Another particularly effective technique is inviting an expert with a large list to do an interview for your site. They will naturally want to share the interview (which contains a creative offer for your product) with their list as well.

But there’s one thing to remember about bonuses: contributing bonuses to paid products is significantly more profitable than submitting bonuses for free giveaways. Avoid all those free JV giveaway sites. Yes, you’ll get people onto your list, but the quality of the traffic is very, very poor. In most cases, free giveaway traffic is just a big waste of your time.

5. Craigslist – Online classified ad sites like Craigslist.org are one of the biggest untapped sources of high-quality web traffic. They are free, simple to use, and can overwhelm your server with visitors.

There is quite a bit of trial-and-error involved with writing a good, traffic pulling classified ad. But there are literally hundreds of free or very low-cost classified ad sites just like Craigslist.org. So once you’ve gotten your copy down (and it’s proven to drive clicks that convert) then just roll it out across the web…and sit back, relax and watch the traffic come flooding it.

6. Online Marketplaces – Most people search the web for information, but people who visit online marketplaces, like Amazon or eBay, are often looking to buy a specific product or service right now. These eager shoppers are exactly the type of people we want to visit our own website.

Every online marketplace has their own unique rules and regulations, so you’ll need to do your homework, but in almost every case they are the prefect place to find good prospects for your product or service.

Once you’ve found a marketplace that caters to your niche, getting their visitors to become yours is just a matter of finding creative ways to use the built-in marketing tools to communicate with targeted prospects for your product or service.

So, no matter whether you prefer writing reviews or running $1 auctions, whenever you find a large group of buyers in one place, it pays to join the fun.

7. Comparison Shopping Sites – A close relative of Online Marketplaces (and another perfect place to find people who are ready-to-buy) is comparison shopping sites like Google Base (which used to be called Froogle.com) and BizRate.com. Some are free, others use a pay-per-click pricing model, but all are a great source of targeted web traffic.

But don’t think that comparison-shopping is all about the lowest price. Yes, the money maters, but much more than cost goes into the buyer's final decision. Savvy buyers value quality...and even bargain hunters are often skeptical about getting “too good of a deal”.

8. TrafficSwarm, InstantBuzz and other ways to create traffic doing things you already do anyway - A web marketer’s life is a busy life. Sites to optimize, links to build, email copy to write; it’s all very time consuming. That’s why you must always be on the look out for new ways to create traffic that don’t cost you any time.

Time is your most valuable asset. Even if you can’t afford to pay for traffic there are still many ways to promote your site without spending all your time. For example, by using InstantBuzz.com you can earn free advertising credits just for visiting your favorite websites. And Ad Exchanges like TrafficSwarm.com give free credits when someone leaves your site. Make the most of your resources, always be on the look out for ways to create traffic that don’t cost either time or money.

Advanced Tactics for Even More Fun and Free Traffic

The first 8 traffic tactics I shared with you today were fun and free ways to drive traffic for beginners. So now, for all you seasoned marketers who’ve already mastered the world of web marketing, here are 4 advanced free and low-cost ways to drive even more traffic to your site very, very quickly…

9. Partner with (or simply just buy) sites that already have all the traffic.

Does a dead site have a top 5 ranking on Google for your most important keyword?

Or maybe there is an amateur site in your niche that’s completely filled with high-quality, link friendly, extremely bookmarkable content. Or what about that hugely popular niche forum or MySpace profile with a hundred thousand friends that is doing absolutely nothing to monetize their million page views a day.

Buy it. Now.

It’s almost always cheaper to buy a niche site with preexisting traffic than to pay Google AdWords for the exact same visitors...as much as 10 times cheaper.

And buying them is a lot easier than trying to beat them at their own game.

Can’t afford to buy it (or the owner just won’t sell)?

Don’t give up...partner with them instead.

Simply show the profitless owner how they can make a ton of money by promoting products and services on their site. Ideally you’ll want to work a revenue sharing deal, but if they resist and you’re confident in the quality of their traffic then simply offer to pay them outright for exclusive access to their ad-space.

10. Make a Mobile Marketing Move

Mobile Marketing is the next big thing. Right now the “wireless space” is literally ripe with opportunities for smart, creative marketers to seize upon.

There are more than 243.4 Million mobile subscribers in the US today (that’s 81% of the entire population). And even though we send 1 billion text messages per day…it seems like no one has figured out how to tap into this massive marketing opportunity yet.

Right now is for Mobile Marketing what 1997-1998 was for the web marketing. It’s wide-open for innovative, creative thinkers to make ground-breaking discoveries and blaze new mobile-marketing trails.

But you don’t have to be the next Lewis & Clark to make Mobile Marketing work. By simply offering a mobile-ready version of your website and taking advantage of basic mobile marketing services like Text2Buy, you can open-up your site and brand to a whole new world of online marketing opportunities.

From SMS Ads to Mobile SEO and everything in between, now is the time to leap into this very exciting field…before your competition does.

11. Start Multi-Lingual Marketing

English is a second language for many, but an ever increasing number of web users prefer to communicate in their own native dialect. In fact, 10 of the top 25 sites on the web are non-English. There is a whole host of software tools and services designed specifically to properly translate your site, create appropriate imagery and design for non-English speaking visitors, help with foreign-language SEO, and guide you to all the other multi-lingual marketing opportunities.

But don’t make the mistake of focusing on just Spanish speaking web users. That’s a great place to start, but China’s growing middle class (137 Million web users) makes them a prime audience for your digitally delivered products and services too.

12. Build an extremely targeted email list AND mail to it at least 2 to 3 times a week

Finally, here is a tactic so fun and so powerful that if you use only one marketing tactic this year, make this one it...

Do everything you can to funnel every website visitor onto your email list. Sending regular emails to your list (with links to high-quality content on your site) is by far the quickest, easiest, cheapest way to create a massive amount of high-quality web traffic...and if you do it regularly you’ll actually enjoy it too!

The greatest source of traffic is repeat visits. Building your own in-house mailing list is quickest, easiest, most effective way to encourage visitors to come back again and again.

What? You say this isn’t an advanced tactic.

You’re right...having an opt-in email list is not an advanced traffic tactic. But building up a real relationship with your email list members, injecting personality into your marketing, and making a commitment to mailing to your list at least 2-to-3 times a week IS what advanced marketers do.

There you have it, my Dozen Fun and Free Ways to Create Traffic Now.

By using these 12 ways to promote your site, not only will you have more traffic and bigger 1&1 Affiliate Commission checks, you’ll enjoy yourself too!

Enjoy!

Customer Testimonials

Online shoppers have grown increasingly cynical to advertisements. Any ad that’s general message is “We are the best because…” or “You should buy from us because…” often falls on deaf ears, mainly due to the fact that every company in the world does this.

The phenomenon of buyer skepticism, while an advertiser’s loss, is an affiliate’s gain! An affiliate, for the simple rationale that they are an outside source, is inherently more trustworthy than the companies they sell for. Since you are both a 1&1 customer and a 1&1 affiliate, you are in a particularly good situation to write your own 1&1 Customer Testimonial and post it on your website with your affiliate link nearby or even contained.
Your positive opinion of 1&1 or another company you use will create trust with your visitors and trust means more sales.

Customer testimonials, other than yourself, can be equally, if not more, effective as your own. If you would like to add actual 1&1 customer testimonials to your website, the 1&1 affiliate team will be happy to provide them to you. Just email us at: emarketing@1and1.com.
